Not much of a dance venue but a great hangout non the less. Good Karma offers the average vegan or vegisaurus a watering hole to stop and fuel up. With a selection of beers that is other worldly I cannot stress enough... For a good beer, go to Good Karma. Some of their beers are in the 11% alcohol level and absolutely delectable. I had the opportunity to try their espresso IRS at 11% and it was a little hard on my stomach but damn did it go down smooth. I'm not much of a vegan but I tried their mashed potatoes and Buddha buns. Great stuff. The bun was filled with veggies like peas carrots and other greens topped with a sweet sauce. I thought a honey mustard sauce would work better but this brown tangy topping sat on top of my tots too... I have to say. I wish I would have been asked if I wanted the sauce... I liked it n my buns but not on my taters. People who work here are so very knowledgable, on beers and food. It's not a surprise that everyone who walks in is greeted by their first name it's a place where the average joe can be a star or blend with the rest of the chums. Water is easy to come by and I couldn't ask for more from a midday stop and snack.
I had an opportunity to talk with the owner Ryan. A really nice guy.
I asked why open a vegan bar in down town San Jose?
"For 7 years we have been open and everyday I've been struggling. Vegan food and good beer is something I wanted here in San Jose. We're not really one of those popular nightclubs, I wake up everyday and just want to give that to people."
So what's different about your beer than everyone else in San Jose.
"Come in and drink our beer and you tell me"
So what can you tell somebody who's never been to a Vegan Bar like GK?
"Well I don't understand the question, the world is filled with two kinds of people. One group takes a look at a plate of food and it looks and smells good so they ask for a bite, and then you have another group who shy's away from that same plate of food. I'm not gonna bend your arm and make you take a bite. If you want to know you'll try it out.
Thanks Ryan. I completely agree...
